‘Help us’ heard from migrant rescue boat waiting to dock in Italy

Two migrant rescue boats are being refused permission to disembark in Italy.

Over the weekend, two rescue vessels carrying a big group of migrants tried to dock in Catania, Sicily.

Most have been allowed to go away the ships, however 35 males on the Humanity 1 and one other 215 on the Geo Barents have been advised they must keep on board.

Each boats – in addition to two extra which stay at sea – have reported that persons are sleeping on flooring and decks.

They added that fever-inducing infections and scabies are spreading, whereas meals and medical provides are working low. Some migrants have been on the ships for greater than two weeks.

Cries of “assist us” may very well be heard coming from the Geo Barents, because the standoff between the rescue ships and the Italian authorities continued.
